What do you launch next if you already have the Sensation? HTC ups the ante by releasing a faster and cooler smartphone in the form of the HTC Amaze 4G. The phone tries to raise the bar for those who love Android phones and make sure the elements are there to be more inviting than the rest of the phones out in the market.

This phone does not come with the Beats Audio but makes sure you can surf in LTE speed one like on T-Mobile’s 42 Mbps network.

Hardware

The HTC Amaze 4G drops the thin is better mantra but commands the bigger is better with its 5.1×2.58 inch body. It is comparable to other smartphones at 0.46 inch of thickness and tips the scale at 6.1 ounces.

The LCD display is big enough at 4.3 inches with Gorilla Glass coating. Comparing it to other LCD equipped Android phones, the screen is a bit dull. The colors are not as vibrant and the viewing angle range is not that wide. We were hoping that HTC equipped the Amaze 4G with Super AMOLED Plus screen which is a sure winner. It is a good looking handset nonetheless in its unibody made of plastic and metal encase its internals.

The camera of the Amaze 4G comes with an 8-MP module similar to the myTouch 4G Slide. The camera comes with a user friendly software with several scene modes. The video comes in good HD as promised.

Software

The Amaze 4G does not have anything revolutionary for its interface as it runs on Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread that comes with Sense 3.0. Maybe HTC is reserving the bigger punch of the Sense 3.5 for another offering.

The Qualcomm chip though makes the phone run smoothly without any hiccups. Going from one screen to another or from one web page to another goes very smoothly. Being an Android, it comes with the usual bloatware. The injected apps are Adobe Reader, 411 & More, More for Me, Lookout Security, Qik Video Chat, and Polaris Office.

Verdict

The phone can actually be renamed HTC “Awesome” 4G. The Amaze 4G will take a few hours from your work time, and make your fingers a bit more busy tinkering. The battery though can be improved.

HTC is a phone company that I did not expect to come out all that good but as soon as the HTC Touch HD came out – I know I was doomed to be hooked to HTC. Now that the HTC Touch HD2 is going to be coming out … I am so excited! It will run on an Android as its operating system and will have a 628MHz processor.

While this might not be the official picture – I think that it is going to look pretty close to this.

The HTC Hero features some things which are noticeably missing on the myTouch 3G. On the HTC, it is called the Sense. In short, HTC Sense takes on a new approach to the functionality of smartphones. These include Stay Close, Discover the Unexpected, and Make It Mine. Stay Close allows users to keep in touch with their family members and friends through a variety of mediums; Discover the Unexpected allows users to share a number of experiences right through their cell phones; and Make It Mine, as one might expect, allows users to personalize their phones in any number of ways.

As far as design goes, you can plainly see the sleekness of the Hero, which features angles and bevelled edges.
